Listening to every heart

October Ought Four

Swallows are lovely, quick moving
birds on winds that whisper
under their wings...

and October is always a giving month
with the sound of sighing
Swallows.

The roads of home had welcomed me
where greenery never fades
in the golden state,
and 101 took me to long known friends
for the first time,

then reunited me with beloved ones
casting smiles and touching
long lost arms in bear hugs
that only brothers can give.

A castle on a hill allowed dreams
of fantasies to float around my soul
carrying with it
the sound of
Swallows to my ears
in shadows dark and warm,

and memories I brought
to my other home
had sounds much like this,
when whispers wake me
in the night
to remain as my lifeline
somewhere in time.

This is that time of year for the memories, the meetings of family and friends.  I think this is like a Norman Rockwell painting, and could be called “America’s Family Recollections”

Love these verses of yours:
“then reunited me with beloved ones
casting smiles and touching
long lost arms in bear hugs
that only brothers can give.

and memories I brought
to my other home
had sounds much like this,
when whispers wake me
in the night
to remain as my lifeline
somewhere in time.”

Excellent write Sunshine.

for the first time,

I remember when you took this trip. *S* And now those joys inspire memories to make another day and place smile. *S* Beautiful work!

Cherish your castle K... and your visits with family.  One day they're here, and the next...

Your nostalgia is beautiful to behold.  Thank you for allowing me to share.

When you decide to capture the moment, you are aces at the art. Loved this, Sunshine.

K
The introducing lines here set the poems theme well..Birds on the wing, moving through October, the pivot month of seasonal transition..and the coming down from the plains of Kansas, into the evergreen of mid California..different as black and white, and very effective, how it sets on the readers mind.

"The roads of home had welcomed me
where greenery never fades
in the golden state,
and 101 took me to long known friends
for the first time,"

"for the first time" Yes indeed, length of time does change a person. It is the same as distance, as you show there in those lines.

What I see here is a Blond hippy girl, sticking out here thumb, on foggy 101...going home and finding things have changed, but not all..

The "long lost arms in bear hugs
     that only brothers can give."

Still remain.

The poem coming full circle then, in the last stanza...it doesn't mention the birds from the beginning, but I see them there.

As wingbeats in an audible dream..That disturb, but not agitate.

"when whispers wake me
in the night..."

As indeed they sometimes do..

I am always surprised by some responses...
and they are the ones that humble me.

Thank you.
