I said to myself
I won't be broken
Although your machine grinds me beneath it's wheels
I won't go easily to your way
No, not quietly at all

I told myself
I won't give in
Although your reasons, your ultimatums
strike at the very heart of me
tearing into my soft and vulnerable spaces
I still won't give in,
No matter that I tremble

Saying
That this way you have,
this thing you do,
This process of wearing down and wearing away
It isn't going finish me
Isn't going to end me,
No matter the strength you lend to the wheels

Life has a way of training and conditioning
the attentive and the willing
And memories of long ago storms, of howled winds and bruised angry skies that threaten uprooting
Teach lessons and leave weathering

How else would I know,
How else could I be so sure that no matter what you do
How you scheme, manipulate
and control
I won't break

Your machine
Your crushing will and your injurious way
Can't and won't move me beyond what I know
to be the truth

And the truth is
That I won't be broken
Not by this
Not by you
No matter what you choose to do

I said to myself
I  won't be broken

And I won't

I'm going to win this
Because I already have

Just so the party you were writing about has any doubt how you feel, Aenea, I think by thee time this has been read your thoughts are loud and perfectly clear.

I love the strength and determination your mantra demonstrates... If I had some pom poms and even the tiniest smidgen of coordination, I'd volunteer as cheerleader! *S* Instead, I'll just say... BRAVO!!! *S*

Strong.  Purposeful, an excellent self review and expression.

Aenea, don't I just know the scenario!  You go, girl!  This is magnificent.  I just know that you will always be OK, no matter the pain.

I have a poetry club with girls at a children's home.  Most of the children there are there because they have been abused in some form or another.  May I read your poem to them, please?

JerryPat2 - Thank you!  My new motto is make it plain.  That way we all knew where we stand.

Ms. E - Thank you!  It took me a second to figure it out. But once I got it, there was no going back!

Suthern - LOL!  Thank you

Owl - Of course you can. I'd be honored, in fact!!
