there is a spry fragility among the cattails
an ache that burrows into the marrow
reaching towards this abstract divinity

here there is nothing but cold at my feet
and a quiet solitude; a hush of briars
scraping through sleet, through stone
to taste blood as if a thorn were some
divining rod - a priming, a burst of foreshadow.

the snow is tired and hides its own secrets,
and i hold it forlorn.  it erodes, with its little cleansings,
the black stain of violation;
a tragic thing, this giving and taking.
but i would love the winter, tender,
nonetheless.

a thousand rains bruise tiny shoulders
a weight, if any, to bear;
you tell me that i am not broken,
and i will tell you that i have been breaking
for an eternity.

Nothing is whole is it Nicole, as it should be. It's all about finding as many fragments as we can and leaving all of the missing pieces to our soul's imagination.

What a terrrific writer you are!

Thanks for the share.

Impressive write, dear Nicole. Whenever we break the mending process is instantly activated, that's my credo.

Captivating imagery.

This is so powerful and yet filled with bittersweet emotions.

There is such tenderness in your poem, and I am in awe.

This is an incredible piece, nicole.  I especially loved the third stanza.  Sometimes love is something were driven to do, no matter how well known its consequences.

Filled with conflict in mind and soul.
Bitter-sweet, broken-hearted write, and yet you can understand the situation and hold your own, endlessly.
That's tough, real tough.

I used to be in this situation. At least insofar as living with the pain. For years, because of what I perceived (rightly so most of the time) to be crimes against myself and those I loved. Finally, last October I learned how to do what everybody has been telling me to do for years . . . Forgive myself. The hurt is still there, but it is blunted now.

So much heart in these lines, my friend ... I've seen it so many times in others...
so,simply yet beautifully stated.

This starts off wonderful and moves to sheer excellence and aches every step of the way. It's been said by others but is worth saying again... brilliant!!

Thank you, everyone - so much for the replies.  It's a comfort to be back and posting again.

DS - Thank you for the read, sir.

Richy - What a beautiful way to put it, thank you very much.

Margherita - I agree 100%, thank you very much dear

OwlSA - Thank you, you are such a sweet person.  The pain is one of those bags that I carry...over the many years, I've learned how to carry it the best that I can.

Blues - Thank you so much!

Amaryllis - Thank you, I appreciate your read and reply.

Michael - Amen brother; thank you...

JL - Sometimes it is, indeed, TOO tough...but what can we do but fight on?     Thank you

Jerry - It's a process...there are a lot of things to go through in the mind.  Baby steps for me, but they're always moving forward.  Thank you sir, very much

icebox - Isn't that the crux of it; I tell around it, usually.  I'm trying to work on that though...thank you

jwesley - Well hello there, and thank you very much.  I write with my heart (sometimes its messy and hard to clean up later).

ms e - As is yours, thank you

suthern - Thank you very much for saying so, what a lovely reply

Marchmadness - Thank you!
