If I had done it a long time ago
It wouldn't still be hanging round.
I must do the deed; do it quick,
A memory must be buried,
Because my soul has borne the pain,
For what happened then still remains.

In the fall of the year things change,
Leaves turn brown; die, fall off the tree,
There's never a kind word for it
After it dies and hits the ground.
My memory is like that leaf,
Its days hassling me will be brief.

If you let your memory go as gently as the tree lets go its leaves, it will rest in peace and not haunt you anymore, dear Jerry.

This is quite beautiful and touches the heart.

Love,

Thank you, Margherita, for your kind words. They too, touched the heart.

Some memories bring comfort... others bring pain. We cling to the first...the latter cling to us.

May your parting be successful. *S*

Ah, thanks, suthern, but we may be able to bury our memories, but we can never forget them, especially if the are awfully bad or awfully good.

This puts me in mind of one of Shakespeare's sonnets ( can't remember which one)but he compares himself/age to the falling leaf or the ones that still cling...I like this very much.  Memories are interesting creatures the way they come and go, leave or stay with us.

Who knows, somewhere in the back of my brains I may have retain that poem of the Barb, Lori. Yeah, those memories, the good with the bad, that is what makes us who we are.
