the light comes through my window
earlier and earlier each day
its supposed to
according to the earth clock
nights are getting shorter
days longer
seasons transitory by design
or evolution
take your pick
the dead of winter
harsh
unforgiving and to the bone cold
spring is different
of course, of course
sprouts speckled bits of greenery
enlighten faces
from winter's severity
to spring's nurturing
a good sign
these smiling faces
not drawn and pinched
in the beginning of spring
or, if you prefer
the ending of winter
mother earth gathers herself into grotesque
shapes
discarding the old
bringing forth the new
as she metamorphosis into the new skin
for a while
not long
but for a while
she looks tattered
clunky
like an old naked woman
showcased by intensive bright light
caught in an embarrassing moment
in her toilet
. . .
sigh
. . .
still, in spite of her crinkled ugliness
she is ours
and we lust for her

Michael, yes, we most likely do abuse her, but I wasn't writing about that. That subject is written and talked about ad nausem.

Thanks, spiros, and there is no way I can stop writing. I may stop posting for a while, but stop writing? To rephrase an oft used phrase, They'll have to pry my cold dead fingers off the keyboard . . .

You're so right about the summer hanging on, suthern, it's been in the mid nineties down here in the swamp all week and looks like it will continue for a while.
