Remember that desert sky?
So many stars,
as if someone had flung
a handful of wild stars
at a black canvas.
An annonymous van Gogh
painting a "Starry Night"
on my heart,
to be remembered
even as I look up at
the starless sky above me.

So sorry about the last 2 lines, Ida - pollution or clouds?  The latter I hope!

I absolutely love the poem - for its glorious self mostly, but also because it reminded me of Kacy's Vincent poems!

This poem speaks to me, dear Ida, you are so right, even if we have seen only once a truly starry sky, it will impress itself on our memory with that immense awe we feel to look at the infinite vastness we are immersed in.

Light pollution makes it difficult in the towns to stargaze.

In any case there are indeleble memories of magical special moments that we can evoke whenever we want to re-experience them.

A little gem!

Love,
Margherita

Oh, you betcha I remember, Ida. I lived in Phoenix for a while during my wandering days. Beautiful country . . . Once you got out of the city, you had the desert and the Rocky Mountains. I was particularly impressed with the majestic vastness of the mountains.

~~ I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize. ~~

Yes! Remember them in Arizona (lived in Phoenix 40 years ago or so and was a lot smaller then)- the sky was HUGE!  Spent hours looking at it from various locations.

Cool piece.

I grew up out in the country where no ambient lighting dimmed the shine of the stars... and even with those memories, a night under the stars at Arches NP was a night when I didn't want to close my eyes to the beauty. *S*

I was in Utah a few years ago and could not get over that I could see the stars and it was a warm  night.  That just doesn't happen here - and the stars were so close.  I hope you are seeing them again, Ida.

Don't cry Ida or you won't be able to see that one twinkling light sparkling just for you.

Beautifully done.

Every child should be shown, else the light pollution will only get worse.
Good that you can remember it.
For me, I think it was a spring night in Quetico Park in Ontario, a long time ago.
It can be a transforming experience.
Thanks for reminding me.

"On my heart to be remembered,"
I too was in Utah and saw a blanketed midnight sky of stars, it was majestic. Love your poem Ida. E

The stars have that kind oif impact on me too.  I love going to the mountains just to stare out at the sky at night.  There's so much smog down here where I live the sky is never what it should be... what that Great Hand intended it to be.

Thank you, Ida.

There's nothing so satisfying as positve comments from so many other fine poets. Thank you all.
