Sands of Scarborough Bay

I wonder…
if you are pretending.

Are your words from your heart,
or is your heart dreaming?
Do you really
mean what you say…
Oh, I want to believe…
Will you stay?
Don’t you know
my heart is reeling?
I want to believe.
But I wonder…

I wonder…
if you are pretending.

Are we just for today
or will there be tomorrow?…
Do you really
mean what you say?
Will we once again
dance on the sands of
Scarborough Bay?
Will your precious smile
greet me each morning
and be there every day?
I want to believe.
But I wonder…

I wonder
if you are pretending…

This summer sands were warm
and pleasing…
But winter is on the North Sea,
and I wonder if you will go.
I wonder if you are pretending…
Are we just for today,
or will there be tomorrow?
I want to believe
But I wonder…

Nights at the Esplanade –
trips to Robin Hood’s Bay,
telling me your life story
while we sit in the shade
of the pines at the Moors…

Do you really
mean what you say?
Can I trust your heart?
Will your precious smile
greet me each morning
and be there every day?
Will we again dance
on the sands of Scarborough Bay?

Oh, I want to believe…

How comes that we tend to suspect the non authenticity of others' feelings? We have that awkward thought of not being worthy, that's it and it is a bad thing. But then summer loves may not always stand the test of time ...

I also hear the musical cadence in your words, they resound very harmoniously.

Very nice.

Love,
Margherita

JL: Yes I hear a song eminating from the sands of Scarborough Bay! A bittersweet sad song? That rhetorical ? makes one ponder & reflect--and leaves it up to the reader to decide.

nice thought-provoker,

JL, this is way, way, way beyond beautiful - as a poem, as a song, as a dream, as reality, as anything at all.

I want to believe.
But I wonder…

I wonder
if you are pretending…

When we meet someone who seems to answer our dreams, it's natural to wonder if the happiness is too good to be true. But when that happiness is with someone who's hurt us before, the wonder increases... we want it to be true but don't want to be hurt again. This is so lovely... I hope there's a tomorrow... and a dance in arms of trust.
