The wild, grinning face of terrorism
has shown itself in America
in an assault we cannot dismiss.
Leering from the smoking abyss
of rotting bodies and twisted steel,
this evil visage is chillingly real
...for the fallen.
America must now confront her destiny,
For the time has come.
September 11, 2001.
While she weeps for what has been done,
mass murder has left her no choice.
Her people must speak with one voice
...for the fallen.

                          Ida Werrett

I wrote this the day after 9/11

*hearthugs*

(and Cali, huh? smiling wide...I've been told I'd be at home there--by a lot of people who don't live there anymore.)

*laughing*

and yes, dear friend,

my most solemn hugs.

But we are not speaking with one voice, Ida, and that is a terrible, terrible thing.

Heartfelt sentiment.
