"End Of Summer"-Abstract by Nancy Eckles

Time casts a spell
In fluids of warm memory;
Late summer, the many gone
Insist I drink the potion,
That beckons I remember

Walking to school
Among powerful beings,
Stretching, and yawning
In September shadows.
The old sun
Sagging on its pedulum-

Is how
I remember,
Ends of long summers.

Bees made dizzy
Sipping ferment nectors
Of liquid fruit
Apples and pears
From my tree lined way home;
The scent
Of last cut grass
Molding fragrant at my feet
On near asleep, yawning lawns,

Is how
I remember,
Ends of long summers.

How was I to learn bookish things?
(Drunk bees were more attractive)
The total sum two numbers bring?
How words were formed perfect?
Their spelling specific?
When bird theives whirled-above,
Practicing leaving
Stole most of my attention?

Is how
I remember,
Ends of long summers.

Ruler taps, disturb daydreams;
Time on the wall says
"It's long to the bell"
Chalk squeeks-words in a row
Nothing will save me
But gravity, that sucks the excess
Of written answers
In snow flakes falling white
To the floor-
My eye on the clock and the door.

Is how
I remember,
Ends of long summers.

You brought back many memories, Ice, although a few dark once found their way there too, it was a pleasant recollection, because I have beat back the demons. Thanks .. .

~ I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. ~

I have a terrible confession to make... *grinning*... I couldn't wait for school to start again! LOL Of course... I lived way way WAY out in the country and had a chore list that never seemed to end and a taskmaster who couldn't be pleased and only saw people other than family at church services... that could have something to do with it. LOL

I loved this beautiful write of nostalgia.

Wow!  Wow!  Wow!  Ford, you wrote a million sensations and "memories" into every word of this and I feel and "am" every word of it, from the squeaky chalk sounds to those glorious sun-soaked walks home.  This is a masterpiece and one I will reread many times for the extreme pleasure of the end of long glorious summers.

The painting did the same for me, the gold linking the summer sun and the autumn leaves, the idea of green representing summer and the shade of green representing the beginning of the leaf-colour changes, and the brown being the last vestige of autumn and the white, being the whisper of the snowfalls to come.

Oh my! Have we been walking together? Like Diana says, I feel these emotions as if they were mine.

Wonderful perceptions, masterfully rendered.

(Oh, but like "Suthern", I loved school ... most of the time that is )

Love,

A poets poet you are.
I must agree with OwlSA above because when I was reading this I was saying wow, wow, wow, with each stanza.
This is really a nice piece of art in words.
This should be framed.

Enjoyed.
