An Irish cigarillo
smoke
I squinted through the preface of
Faust
My dirty feet were bare,
unabashed and in the air
I would scratch my nuts, betrothed
if only they'd consent, descend
I laughed out loud (oy mania!)
as my daughter asked whassup
"What the hell was Goethe's first name?"
She googled it and said "Ludwig"
I blessed her ingenuity--
her genius with text machines
which made the quest of intellect
dull and enigmatic-free.

She asked me if I was okay
and I tossed Goethe across the room
decrying the atrocity
of Hunter Thompson's cross to bear
the pen and ink of Eau Trudeau
and how that must have pained him so--
trapped within iconograph
depicted in the comics, he
displaced his art with bullet seed
polishing his guns.

"oh-there's-nothing-wrong-with-me,
but have y'seen the Amerckan dream?
I'm gonna need some blotter sheets
of acid and an ounce of coke
tequila and a cadillac
and Johnny Depp to study me
while I rehearse another show."

It's gonna be awright yanno

"But never quite the same--I've thrown
too many books across the room."

It's not too late. She smiled at me.

"I just wish...I'd been...something."

You are, she said, You just don't know...

She left for work. I picked up Goethe.
Another cigarillo, lit,
I read my Faust. I'd had my fit.

I'll just pretend I've really quit

while choking on the smoke.

Terrific! This sums it up perfectly.

A cigarillo seems a great tool to better absorb and digest Faust!

Johann

Never trust a distracted text messenger. But I do so appreciate the indulgence of my pipfriends on this one...just another page from a day in the life.

and grins to Kari--don't know if what I've got is style or a medical condition!

But I appreciate your appreciation, lovie. Danke'.

Johann alone wouldn't do, dear Karen, no ... Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, a true "poeta maximus" and not only ... he was a Universal genius.

So much for my European literature pride ...

*laughing*

Yep. I do so relate to the Faust thing.

But then, I managed to mesh up a bunch of other folks who lived fairly Faustian style lives as well.

*shaking my head*

You-are-so-smart... Love you, dear lady.

I'm so sorry I let you down, sweet girl...

I've known Faust in you before...
even when you've showed him the door,
and let him bite you in the arse
when you've let it all freed in verse...

and that's why I'm glad you're back!

You all manage to find your way into my heart and soul. All of these hot ladies (and gurrrrrrrrrrrl? Helen--you are naughty, because YOU KNOW what you are doing--tease! )

and thanks again, all, Ali, Ms. E for your confidence in me, luminousity, for just being illuminating and inspiring, and oh-I-know-I've forgotten someone--OH, ICE--you're great with scotch and you do know I adore Dorothy Parker and other women who share her initials, and, and--

(the houselights go up and the music starts to play)

and oh, I want to thank my MOM (serenity yells) she's beening throwing books at me since I stopped chewing on the covers, thank you Mom, I love you!)

See ya'll at the party?

Karen exits the stage...the wrong way, naturally.

Love you guys. And now I can't get Helen's fingers outta my head.
