This Side of The Evening

On this side of the evening
there's a mongrel love slippin' down my chest
and this rearview mirror
shows things not so close, but too close to guess
I leave it all with the rest
the things I'm leaving behind in the morning

On the other side of love
I have found despair tapping it's talon toe
come to claw me up
drop me in the morning , searching high and low
for all the heart and soul
this lithium sunrise in a bottle of morning

Long and winding,
ever do I keep finding
this road filled with tears and recriminations
why do you have to bleed to feel the sensation
oh baby you know
somehow you always know

From this side of daylight
standing, eyes wide open and ready to give
in this funhouse mirror
I see her lies and truths I must somehow forgive
else how can I ever live
being dragged down by this heart in mourning

Old and so tired,
my jets all but fired
this road has wounded my tire tread heart
why'd you have to destroy just to reset restart
oh darlin' I know
somehow you'll always go

And this side of the evening
there's a mongrel love that's yet to be tamed
and these tears in the mirror
reflecting things so cold, they need to be inflamed
but I'll leave it for tomorrow
in this side of the evening I'll take off without a warning
leaving this town far behind by the morning
