Hear it toll,
The clear tone that is ringing,
Hear it chime
Marking time,
It’s a sad song its singing;
Hear it toll.

Twelve tones clear,
The date changes once again,
Dark passage
Marks an age,
Tolling against the pain;
And all hear.

Joyless, Joyless, hear the bell.

Gloom

Profoundly gloomy, dear Professor!

I can't but insist on the light that follows darkness and on the joy that follows sadness.

Things can change, it depends on how you look at things ... and thus the ring of a bell need not necessarily be joyless, not even when it signals transition.

It is thought provoking and you expressed your mood oh so well.

Love and joy.

I can almost hear the tolling... you wrote the funereal atmosphere so well.
