No, it's not a poem about Toerag, It's a poem by him. Our friend is unable to post for himself and that's all that will be said about that.

One is carefree at age 9 or 10.
You can climb a tree and see the nest of a wren.
Never a dream of how time does pass
When you roll with a puppy in soft green grass.

Those days go, time doesn't stand still
You begin to climb Life's long, steep hill.
Learning that all isn't joy in just being young
And everything isn't sweet to a youthful tongue.

Knowledge and growth come with age
Life is a book; each day is a page.
For each loved one who goes, another is born
And each dawn  heralds a bright new morn.

The other part of the bargain was that I am to be insulting since that is what makes him feel the most at home...so....

You got all the sympathy from me you're gonna get, you old rustbucket so you may as well get back here and show people the talent you ain't got.....ok?

Toerag: You know how many of your poems I've read... so you'll know how much I love this one when I tell you it's one of my all-time favorites!!!

Life is a book; each day is a page

In my life's book, the very best pages are those with a Toe-touch on every line. *S* Take care of you, my dear friend... and thank you for this beauty of a poem!!

Bal: Thank you... you know how much.

Thank you for sharing Toerag's poem, which I like very much.

A touch of melancholy to be caught between the lines, but life's book is topped with wisdom and sweet surrendering to what is. Great job!

My best wishes for being quickly able to come back here.

Love,
Margherita

Toe, I've got a foot I need to photo so I can send it to you! You think you've got a toe with a rag around it? I've got a whole foot in rags right now, and it's not the first time, so get back here soon so we can share stories, y'hear?

Besides that, I love ya, y'know? You took me in when I was just a beam.

Love,

Sunshine

Hey! You can turn the pages of my book with your toe any old time once you get back here!

That poem was one of my favorites of yours.

Alabama Autumn is another favorite of mine.  Yup, I kinda like the serious ones thrown in here and there from our Toerag.

I agree with Mysteria! *S* Your serious poems touch our hearts as thoroughly as your humorous ones tickle our funny bones. And you are loved and missed! *S*

I read this today and felt sad.  Sad like when the leaves blow off the trees and you know snow is going to come out of that steel gray sky.  It's an end-of-the-season kind of sadness.  It's a life kind of sadness.

Good grief!! Talk about a bad penny!

Another "hit and pun" from the Alabama ailer. Yep, we are still here and yep, we are still worse off without you so how about getting your onery self back here??

Thanks for checking in, Toe. You can be a mite worrisome at times.

As my fellow O&O might say ... can I ditto Balladeer? *S*

Except, of course, for the part about the bad because we know you're wonderful and he's just jealous... and the penny part because you're worth a lot more pennies than I could ever count... even though I finished 3rd grade! LOL So I guess it's not reallly a ditto (still channeling Lovey *G*... and you'll notice I'm not arguing the ornery and worrisome parts LOL) but your drive-by sure is appreciated!!!

Thank you, Balladeer, for posting Toerag's poem.

Thank you, Toerag, for this page in the blue pages of Pip.  I feel the undercurrent of it deeply.

Toe,

I have laughed as I have read your poetry - and sometimes I feel a lump in my throat. This is one of those lump in my throat poems.  It's so good and it touches me.

I, too, like your poem very much, with it's look back to more carefree days, and the present with it's wise eye to the future.  C'est la vie, and blessings. ~KL
