HOMECOMING BLISS
17 August 2011

The sleepy late afternoon sun
slow-gold embraces the houses and gardens
in amber love and light
like Rembrandt
caressing with light
and protecting with shadow
the subjects he honours.

It surprises and delights me
every eager homecoming
and I glow in reply
and submit in joy
to the tranquillity.

A well-written and lovely read.

I like the comparison of late afternoon light and shadow to a Rembrandt painting. That is the light, and shadow, of experience.

Thank you eg.  It brings me great joy to submit to the tranquillity.

Thank you, easy1.  Rembrandt is one of my favourite painters, amongst, admittedly, many.

Thank you, Jimmy, for your heart-warming words.

Thank you, Kat.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks, Karilea.  Smiles.  They are all very special moments for me.  I love the way the late afternoon sun blesses all it touches with a very special light.

Ah, using Rembrandt as a catalyst for light and shadows was inspiring, Owl.

The late afternoon light has something comforting and special really and you caught it masterfully, dear Diana.

Excellent.

Thank you, martiniat8.  I see this glorious scene (and am very touched by it every time without fail) every afternoon on the way home after work in winter.  The gold light falls a little later in summer, but then I see it from my home in my garden and on the houses and trees across a shallow valley.

Thank you, Jerry.  I adore what Rembrandt does with light and shadow.

Thank you, Shelerella.  Sometimes I am very stressed at work, but the sky and cloud messages from my guardian angels - my beloved horse, Flicka, my beloved cat, Tigger, and my beloved dog, Daisy – all in Heaven - dissolve my problems, relax my shoulders and light up my smile, and then when I get to the garden suburb in which I live, the scene I described in the poem, adds to it, and I arrive home relaxed and eager to see my dog, Benji and my cat, Cleo who welcome me with as much adoration as I give them on our reunion.

Thank you, Margherita.  Thank you for saying I caught the late afternoon sun masterfully.  It catches me masterfully too.

Thank you, Yann.  I am glad you enjoyed my poem.

This is so very beautiful!!! And I know Benji and Cleo add to your bliss... even if not to the tranquillity! *G*

Owl - After the daily hustle and bustle of work, it's good to come to a place for thoughts to find some tranquility. Now that's homecoming bliss. Enjoyed. Namyh

Thank you, Ruth.  Yes, Benji and Cleo do most certainly add to my bliss!  You understand so well – and it is true that they do not always add to my tranquillity (they can be very demanding of my time which I need so much of to work!  Also when they are sick, I worry myself silly – and the vet bills get high as you understand only too well) – giggles – but, surprisingly enough, they often do bring me great tranquillity – especially when they are asleep, usually one on either side of me.  Smiles.  Hugs to you and meows and purrs to Kate and Colin!

Thank you, Namyh.  Yes, you are so right.  Home is a haven and a castle.
