The Final Voyage
By Paul Wilson

Hot scorching Sun beats down on him
as tracks in sand disappear
Not a cloud in sight
vision of oasis does appear

Body covered by blisters from Sun
lips as dry as desert sand
Ever wandering thru this hell
walks the soul of a man

Water the key to survival
existence in doubt
Passing caravan up ahead
with all his might he begins to shout

Illusion of the mind
tricks played with no remorse
Years spent in this emotional hell
trying to stay the course

Ship of fools from long ago
lost voyage to promised land
Ocean dried up eons ago
ship now covered by drifting sand

Twenty four souls perished long ago
one was never found
Many have searched over the years
for this lost soul and kings crown

On Summer nights voices can be heard
screaming for help as ship begins to sink
Twenty three men sent to their watery grave
all but one gone in a blink

Today that one restless soul
still wanders the sea that use to be
Lost between the promised land
and this hell called reality

Compassionate re-enactment of what must have been a terrifying and lonely death.  Beautifully written.

Dear Paul, your poem is very captivating and most beautifully written.

I do believe that no one is really ever lost or alone, but to those watching from the outside it appears so. May this particular soul you are speaking of have found peace.

Paul,

Only age allows proper reflection.
This poem puts me in mind of those
who are a bit older than me, but I
know their stories, and their losses
that they believe they've born alone.

Kudos on this tribute to the ones
that are left behind.
