If you have things you’d like to say
Please don’t stay silent till the day
I can no longer hear a word
If accolades I have incurred
Please tell me now, you’ll fill my heart
If you have nice words to impart

If you have love you’d like to share
I beg you – show me that you care
Don’t wait until I breathe no more
To hold me close, this I implore
To be with you is what I crave
I cannot respond from the grave

If you have flowers you’d like to give
Offer me roses while I live
A simple bud with its sweet smell
Should be a greeting, not farewell
Give us today - some way, somehow
We have no guarantee past now

Love the pic, suthern, and love the sentiment and the words just as much. You took the old saying, "Give me flowers while I'm living," and turned it into a very moving poem. Congratulations,

~ If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it. ~

This touched me deeply.  I have a friend who a month ago had a sore shoulder and a nagging cough.  We all had nagging coughs last winter and this spring, so she didn't think much of either.  When she went to the doctor, she was told she a pinched nerve and she was given pain pills.  They didn't work. When she went back, they gave her a chest x-ray and said "Pnuemonia." .. But, something caught the doctor's eye (thank God) and she went to the ER for more tests.

She has uterine cancer that metasisized (butchered the spelling and, for once, don't care!) into her lungs.  She can't have surgury until the tumors shrink.  She finds out next week if they have shrunk.

She has been wanting me to take her to the gardens at the University as we both love flowers.  It has rained every and/or been chilly every day this last month.  Today she asked me if I could take her to her treatment, so I took time off work to do that.  I realized how hard it is to ask for help.  Her husband needs to make up time at work.

I am giving her my Wednesday afternoons until she no longer needs them.  This give her time to do things without asking (which we all hate to do).  It gives me time with her - she makes me laugh and she is so damn smart.  It's a gift to spend time with her; it really is.

As for the gardens?  Well, I took her the biggest bouqet that the florist could get in a basket tonight.  I told them no pastels, only bright flowers that would be in a garden in AK.  I can't take her to the gardens right now - so I brought the garden to her.

I am not telling you this to pat myself on the back.  This women is my hero.  I am amazed and gratified that she wants to spend precious time with me.  That is a true gift.  I am telling you this because your poem speaks to me ~ and now you know why.

I love it and you.

I could not agree with more!  My signature says it all Ruth, and when I die there will be nothing left, as I give it all now, in words, deeds, and yes, also gifts.

It can not be done later.

Great message.

JerryPat: Thank you very much! I'm so glad you liked! As for the picture... it's old... but then... it took me over 5 years to get around to posting one... so anyone expecting me to update regularly doesn't know me well. LOL

ebonygirl: Thank you very much. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Lori: Thank you! I appreciate your comments very much.

Allison: Oh, gal... you moved me to tears. I know you weren't patting yourself on the back...  you're just being a loving person and the best friend you know how to be... something that doesn't surprise me in the least. Your bouquet of afternoons is even more beautiful than the flowers for it is hard to ask. *S* I think you will get as much as you give... time with those we love is precious. Thank you so much for liking the poem and sharing the reasons... I will keep you and your friend in my prayers. And... I love you, too.

Ida: Thank you so much!

Mysteria: I know this is how you live your life and I love it that you do... thank you so much for liking the poem! *S*

jwesley: It was a similar sentiment that led us to celebrating Daddy's 85th birthday by asking everyone to send a card or write a note remembering some way he'd touched their lives. The response was incredible and he loved every word, every picture, every memory, every hug. Those same people gathered for his funeral and we heard  the sentiments and stories repeated... but I'm so grateful that HE got to experience all that love while he was alive. The scrapbook we made was one of his most cherished possessions. Thank you so much for liking this, my friend!

DS: That's so very true... and so beautifully expressed. *S* Thank you so very much!

My very dear friend, Ruth.  I loved your poem and its heart.  What a wonderful idea for your Dad's 85th birthday!  I am so happy for him that he got to treasure the moments and then capture them all in a scrapbook while he was alive.

Alison, I am going to email you about the story you related.

So very true, Ruth. This is a poem worthy
of printing out on hanging on a bathroom
mirror that a spouse or friend or lover or
family member might see it.

Marilyn: That's really the gist of the poem... thank you!

Owl: Thank you so much, dear lady! I'm glad you liked! *S* My sister got the idea from a Dear Abby column... I'm forever grateful!

Sunshine: Thank you! *S* I love that thought and love to think of it making a difference. *S* But I'd be reading it to myself... Kate and Colin can't read... or understand why I'm always writing. LOL

Worthy read and very true, however sometimes people are not very expressive of there thoughts, expressing care is important for getting things going. Fine writing.

Life is for the living, and each day a gift, there is beauty every where in everyone as long as we are open to it.

YOur poem stirs a lot of feelings, to love and cherish the life we've been given, to perservere and believe in miracles,
to love deeply and unconditionly.

Warm hugs to you,  suthern gal~

shelerellaSP: Your response would have touched me any day. Knowing why you came to PIP, it moves me even more. Thank you very much... I am so very sorry about your Dad.

Prasad: Thank you very much! It is hard for many and was hard for me... But chewing on unsaid words once the opportunity to speak them is gone is even harder.

Bluesy: Hugs back to you, gal... with many thanks for your wonderful response! *S* As for loving unconditionally... is there any other way?

JL: And your sweet response put a big smile on this face. *S* Thank you very much!
