Once upon a pussycat
warm of purr and wrapped in black,
just the tip of a pink tongue
causing cute, has left her gums;
for her years have taken youth
not her white bib and white fur boots.

Lithe and lively with sharpening claws,
understanding love, she bawls;
for an attitude of wounded voice
to a grieving cat seems the only choice.

She took to howling one day in May
after her best friend, Dog, passed away,
even taking his favorite chair
and leaving half her hair there;
nudging her nose on foot or hand,
pleading for just a touch, no demand;
to please or tease or pay attention
when the one she loved was now in dog heaven.

Such grief she blew making bellowing air
that the whole neighborhood
knew of her despair,
and sighed as she cried without a tear
for Dog so worthy darling and dear.

I know what she feels, for my own curled heart
understands well the missing part
and wishes to be able to be so free
as to voice the way she does, what's missing in me.

Cats have deep sensory feelings when it comes to death.  My grandmothers cat died (of grief) the very night my grandmother did.

Comfort her... she truly needs it.

and ((HUGS)) to you.

Martie, my heart aches and screams and twists and convulses for you and Needful (and Taylor), and the tears are coursing down my cheeks.  I have been dreading this day, as I know you have.  Although your darling, sweetheart, Precious is in Heaven cavorting and playing with Flicka-horse and Tigger-cat and Daisy-dog, it is SO HARD, I know to go on without our precious babies.

Martie,

if there is one reason I adore Owl so much, it is because she is a true animal person. Knowing that animals like your Precious and Needful, who I have held in my arms, and my Poe & Twain, can be touched by her in any way? Makes me want to love them all so much more, because they will then be held so much tighter in her love.

And there are those who say only man has a soul . . .

Loss is painful no matter 'who' you are...

I don't particularly care for cats, but give yours a hug for me...

I knew I was going to love this one when I saw the title... I think I read a bit faster every day, wanting to get to it. *S* But it touched my heart even more than I anticipated as I remember times when even my grief couldn't match that of the furfriend left behind and mourning their pal.

I just had to come back in here to be with you and Needful for a while.

Karilea is very blessed to have known and held Precious and Needful.

Thank you Martie and Karilea for loving me and for loving animals.  The tears are flowing again.  Seeing Precious in my mind's eye playing so happily with Michelle and Flicka and Tigger and Daisy warms my heart, but feeling your pain, Martie, and Needful's scrunches my insides up.

I believe that people and animals share the same Heaven, but that there is a very, very sacred and extra beautiful part of Heaven where all the animals are and only the animally people will be sufficiently blessed to share that part of Heaven with their beloved babies and all the other animals.

More hugs for you and Needful

Martie, I have a cat and a dog both about the same size who play tag in here, and try to kill me by running in front of me.  I shutter to think of what will happen when one goes as  I am afraid I'm a poor substitute for tag.  My cat does the same as yours and being a Bengal, she is so loud, and jsut doesn't let up until she gets me paying all my attention to her.  I guess all you can do is comfort her, and in doing so, comfort yourself on the loss of your pet.
