Is the Harvest yet Ripe?

I now sit in the harbor
watching for the tall ships
to come in
Where once I was a sailor
Pressing boldly against
heavy winds,
and
yearning the sails to be hoisted
and the ship set out to sea…

Now storms are heavy
And cast grayness on the waters.
And the waves slice the air,
rumbling as if to plea:
“Send out your best that I may devour them.”

Guide-less and blind.
sailors go out, some die needlessly, while
some return lost and unable to discern
the very harbor that birthed their departure
in words so kind:
“For your country!  For your fellow man!”

I suppose now, all the tall ships are gone.
Pride has fallen.  A nation is become
disgust, and flooded with sin.

While I sat here all day long,
morning to night;
I heard but one old man whisper:
“Pray my friend, pray.
Look to heaven and pray…”

The tall ships ARE gone,
and the good men are
disappearing as well...
especially the ones that
know to whom we owe
our person.

JL, you always make me glad to
read you.

An excellent write. Perhaps a bit on the depressing side at times, but you are honest about it. Thanks to the old man for the reminder. Was/Is his name Elijah?

Prayer helps to weather the storms of war.

Powerful words here, James.  What do you do when your everything worth fighting for isn't worth it anymore?  What then?

I think the "one" had it right.

Pray.

Excellent writing.

Unfortunately, there is a bit too much truth here but it is superb writing all the same.

Fine writing. Perhaps we could also think of training new breed of good sailors? Just another perspective.
