I wish to write about
fairy tales of love
that when I was a child
couldn't get enough of

I wish to write about
matters of the heart
but pain set in
from the very start

no whispers of
I love you
pretty lady
or how do you do?

just ignorance and sorrow
and love ya tomorrow

for pity sakes
too many mistakes
I lay them out
I see them clear
without a doubt

the conscious is just
and the guilt is fair
but now my love
is what I need to share...

Aw, Angel4aKing, I think as a child we, of course thought like a child. Reality slapped most of in the face so hard it took some of us decades to recover. I loved this poem. So much so that I am keeping it for future reading.

You ended this piece wonderfully.  I've often wondered if love conquers all... or causes all, when it comes to things like guilt and conscience.

one may never know.

I think love is first finding the right person to give it to, one who sees and appreciates it for what it is. Secondly it is the letting go of pain and fear so that we can truly be free to give everything we are to another. It is difficult to let yourself be that vulnerable.

Yes, first you have to finally let go. Angel, first write, write more, then write some more, write all of the pain and fear and bleakness down; then what you seek will come. Some of the greatest poems in history where written at the poets bleakest moments.

Greetings, and thanks for this write and your posting of it here.

As for love poetry in the midst of too-oft-reinforced sorrows, I here refer you to the shoulders of a giant:

Oh as I was young and easy in the mercy of his means,
Time held me green and dying
Though I sang in my chains like the sea.

- Dylan Thomas, Fern Hill

I guess much of it is in the cadence or rhythm, which makes all poetry at first galance a proper fairy tale.

Poets do not shoot fish in barrels, we woo them---and the barrels, too.

Dark Stranger,

Thank you for reading and I am sure you speak the truth and my chair has been misplaced!!!

Marilyn,

Thank you for your comments, underappreciated love is the hardest to get over, turst me I was married once and found no inspiration there....and leaving myself vulberable is a mistake I have learned to fear making again!! Take care!!!

Thank you Tuff,

Letting go isn't easy when all parties are hanging on tight for different reasons....take care and thanks for stopping by to read!!!

easy1,

I LOVE this, it does come easy when we are young and then we become cautious as we get older literally held captive....Take care and thank you much for stopping by to read!!

This was a well-rounded poem in thought
and sound. Enjoyed it.
