Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2011-08-01 12:04 PM

We've been together
since way back when
It's been so long
and they're so close
you'd think
I'd call them friend
They've  got my back
they're always on the look out
to find one way or another
to sink
inside of me
to protect or defend
my yellow bellied
lily livered
shy
from the dark
with heebie jeebies
and people
with arms lengths
and a myriad
of other quirkishness
concealed
And should the truth
be revealed
It seems to be
that they try
to protect myself
from me

Nicely stated.

Wish I had your friends.   We can be our own worst enemies, can't we?

I’ve caused more damage to myself than anyone else could do. Fine writing on true friends.

Ice and Marilyn thank you. The poem started out with me just looking at what a big "scared of my own shadow" kind of person I am and evolved into being my own worst enemy.  I like it when poems take you somewhere you weren't planning to go. Thanks again

A tricky subject, since you always try to foil yourself. Well written

I am the male counterpart to this . . .er . . . confession. That makes it bisexual I guess. Hah!

Jerry, you goofy guy! Ha! That's a scary thought...well, I don't know, maybe some guys think you're hot too.

My fear and trepidation are too lazy (or too busy quaking *G*) to offer much protection. *S* I really like the introspection this both reveals and invites. *S*
