The (Passing) Storm

Just pointless words to kill some time, I put the pen to page.
To offer up a dead man’s rhyme – to vent a little rage.
Share aimless thoughts that cross the mind – riddle a man with pain.
Or bring to fore, when so inclined, the dear price of refrain.
The tease, the taunt, the lifelong want; an emptiness never filled,
That seems to whispers – seems to haunt a memory, itself, self-willed.
The storm, well it changed everything and some wounds, they just won’t heal.
Tan-lined finger the only thing that proves any of it was real.

But the forum is still standing, though silence lines many a wall.
Its echoes almost demanding that I seek out some other hall.
My friends?  They used to gather here, many generations ago.
Shared many a hug, many a tear…  Where they are today I don’t know.
But in my mind there shines a light, I know the way, just not the means.
I know Serenity still walks at night down the streets of New Orleans.
I know stirring in the ashes, where the wind no longer blows;
Lost between the lightning’s crashes I can still hear Christopher’s prose.

And somewhere across that dark sky on eternal wings ever rising,
Nochtdraco watches with teary eye this poor specimen’s compromising.
The poison bled out of her veins, there’s no doubt she’s once again whole.
Only freshness of the rain remains, with the Darkness lifted from her soul.
So shall I sing for new faces, or simply wait 'those friends in passing?
Cast echoes ‘the empty spaces of shadowed cobwebs amassing?
Dare lift my voice on the impetus of a never-ending storm,
Or give in to this incubus, and never again sleep warm?

Michael Anderson

Like one that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head...

Michael, many  have passed on, many are missed but many read, stop by occasionally to show they still exist...

and  there are certain reasons/seasons that take up one's time from here.

But they are always welcomed back and that is what makes this site what it is.

Michael...I am inclined to believe that your poem is about New Orleans and the past hurricane named Katrina that almost wiped it off the map. Great write...Enjoyed...Paul

Good Morning to my friend who Shines in Darkness..

Many friends are here indeed.  I, for one, am overjoyed to see you - whatever the circumstances that precipitate your writing again.  You're sorely missed when life draws you away.  Sure, there are always folks coming, going, and returning.. That's life.

Some won't be so fortunate, of course.  You might want to stop by our memorial page to see who these fine folks are.  Remember

Very happy to see you, Mike..

I read this when you first posted but didn't have a chance to comment then...this is a wonderful piece of work, I found it to be very soulful.  Looking forward to reading more. And apparently a welcome back is in order....So here is a warm one for ya!

M, Indeed.  Just trying to nudge a few of 'em.

ebonygirl, Thank you.

Paul, While the poem was not directly about Katrina, Katrina was the inspiration for the title; comparing if you will the damage done in New Orleans with that done to my personal life...  "serenity" is an actual poet who lives in New Orleans, and leaves me quite partial in my feelings towards that city.  Amidst all the calamity, I find peace there.

Angel4aKing, Thank you and nice to meet you.  I will look for your poetry as well.

Nan, Good to see you.  Thanks for the link to the Memorial page...  Indeed, I've been gone longer than I thought.     I feel kind of petty now in my squabbling.  But hey, it did draw you out... lol.  So it did work!  Thank you for the kind words.

Lori, Thank you for the kind words and the warm welcome.

Indeed, there are new faces to sing for.

Michael... Thanks for setting me straight about this poem. I definately can see where someone might compare the damage done by Katrina with things they have experienced in their life.
I know Lady Serenity well, being that I am also from Louisiana, about 60 miles South of New Orleans where Katrina did her most damage. Serenity has been both a comfort and inspiration to me...Paul

Do I get a vote? *S*

If anything could prompt a return, this would. *S*

(ummmm... perhaps I'd better be more specific... that's return of PEOPLE, please... not hurricanes! *S*)
