Frail

I don't see myself in mirrors anymore
My hands are wizened now
Twisted and stilted like tree stumps
My eyes like shards of glass
My skin like glass worn down to sand

I hold my granddaughter
Fresh from the womb
Lean into her soft new ear
Tell her my secrets
Tell her to never get this old

. . . and I hope she understands and heeds that advice, my friend . . .

Oh, but eminor_angel, there is such grace and beauty in the frail - such delicate fragility, and wisdom, and a wealth of memories just waiting to be told - don't you feel that when you see others who are frail?
