PAC-Life

You wake one day to claustrophobic walls on either side.
A life of tunnel vision has prepared you for this ride.
Round and rolling, moving on, you consume all you face.
You hit a wall, but learn to turn, and life becomes a race.
Tentative at first, learning the ropes, the path seems kind of scary;
Till suddenly, a man possessed, you’ve got to have that cherry!
Avoiding contact of all others somehow seeming the norm,
Down right, down right, up left, up right – a pattern starts to form.

But Blinky and Pinky, Inky and Clyde, the ghosts are after you…
So you hit a power crystal and you turn those suckers blue!
Riding that surge of power, running them down one by one;
You tally up the bonuses all in the name of fun.
Consume!  Consume!  You must have all, a challenge to your pride.
The ghosts are close but the shortcut takes you ‘the other side.
Fake down, turn up; consume the last, relieved that you are through.
But no, the speed’s merely turned up as you start level two.

Consume!  Consume!  That’s all you know – peaches, pretzels, and more!
No time to look, no slowing down, keep running up the score!
Consume!  Consume!  Racking your brain until it starts to melt.
Pushing the limits of a game that doesn’t have a tilt.
But what if I said you missed the mark somewhere in your Pac-Life?
The ghosts you thought were chasing you – your friends, family, your wife?
The power crystals that destroyed them, merely your drug of choice…
I wonder would you slow down enough to even hear my voice?

Hah! You, my friend, have just played my song, the forever wanting, lusting, Sleepless in Whatever City . . . "Speedo." You touched on almost everything a speed freak is about, and then some. Good shit.

A timely reminder to appreciate the life we are so fortunate to be living.
It's easy to get caught up and spin our wheels....and wonder why.

Good thoughts here, much enjoyed.

Superb analogy, Michael, with a turn-around powerpunch climax that smacks readers in the solar plexus! Yes, one needs to open one's heart, mind, soul and senses to the wonders of the people and nature around us.  So many millions of moments are otherwise lost, but the sooner the target of your poem, opens himself/herself up, so many millions of moments can be gained that would otherwise have been lost.  It is never "too late."  Smiles.

If you look up 'lazy' in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of me illustrating the concept. *S* (I also merit honorable mention under 'slug' and 'sloth' *G*) So for ME to feel the possession of ambition and the compulsion of the rat race as my heartbeat quickens through every line is a powerful tribute to your pen. *S*

Since slowing down isn't a problem for me (LOL) I have plenty of time to listen... and I do so with awe... fantastic write!
