Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2011-07-21 10:28 AM

Wearing copper colored
summer coats
and fine black boots
for their early morning jaunts
they prance up the road undaunted

Young ones wander up the drive
curiosity
overcomes fear
as they explore the night haunts
playfully in the light of day

Wearing the dark of night
they come
and leave calling cards
to show how close they dare
to get when only the moon is watching

And that was high praise indeed too, coming from you, Lori!  Thank you.

Your poem is magical.  We don't have foxes here (though we have jackals), but I was there viewing and bonding with the foxes from behind a bush, and simultaneously being one of them too!  I was exhilerated by your poem, to the extent that the first time I read it, I couldn't find words, being too wrapped up in fox life!

It goes without saying that this is saved in my Lori Grosser Rhoden Pip folder!

Sometimes when I am working and not allowing myself to be online, I pop into my Pip folder and sneak a read of a poem or two, just to give me added motivation to my work or to wake me up when it is the middle of the night and my eyes keep falling closed.  "Foxes" is most definitely going to be one of those I read the most often.  Thank you for the magic of these beautiful creatures.

Fine writing, very descriptive. Unfortunately we don’t get to see foxes where I live.

"Wearing copper colored
summer coats
and fine black boots"

Their exact attire.:-)

I watched fox pups play in the hedgegrow near my garden, last summer.
Your poem is them, in all their beautiful glory.

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.
Longfellow
