Fair to middlin' of nowhere

0 posted 2011-07-20 02:14 PM

Wilting like a flower
without water
as river-lets of sweat
trickle south
Triple digits
dry my mouth
the sun sears a squint
on sweat stung eyes
Beautiful blue sky
belies baking below
Shade tree's quiet leaves
hang in the dead calm
Even the animals are still
waiting for the sun to melt
it's blazing into sunset

Quite a poetical tribute (or dirge) to the amazing weather which has taken over a large chunk of the USA, though so far not down here in the Louisiana swamp.

You have a feel and a knack for getting to the core of whatever you are writing about. This one is no exception.

P.S: You can;t "learn" knack. You either have it or you don't. You have it.

Why thank you very much Jerry. It says 113 on our thermometer but it is usually high so it is probably only 109. Arg!

Arg.  Don't know how you do it!  And write poetry too!  Dang, I am impressed ... and not envious of the sun at all.

Keep drinking water.

Yep, it's a sizzler out there,
and you can probably cook the bacon on it!

You capture a moment brilliantly, and get the whole slide show going in so few words.

Very nice and so very hot.

Salina, KS (where I work) broke the record in the nation with 113 a week or so ago. Thank you all so  much for your response to this poem.  We did get a break and some rain! we could use more...
Thanks again people, you're the coolest!

I know it's not any consolation... but you're not alone. *S* And pouring a cold glass of tea doesn't help... I can't decide whether to drink it or pour it over me! LOL

Hang in there... I loved your melt! *S*

Lori...we've been blessed with cooler than normal temps this summer.  Yesterday it was only 95.   Your imagery captured the heat...very cool.

Last I checked "heat" was a four letter word... and rightfully so.  Your poem depicts shear misery in a beautiful fashion.

Very well done.
