Beyond the gardens of my heart
through the green valleys of life
lurk the shadowlands
mercilessly calling to me
day after endless day
to view with bruised spirit
countless tears on saturated grasses
sheltering scattered seeds of hope
that without light
and warmth can not grow
yet staunchly remain in abeyance
nourished only by my never-ending love
dwelling dormant in yesterday
but compelling in their power
to evoke the memories...
grim testaments of the reality
that the dream will never die
and may with the coming of
a new sun bloom again
while I am relegated to
one without the power to resist
and must return again and again
to the shadowlands of
what we once had.

Tragic poetry, but a subject I know all too well, Marcia. The past. The lovers. It is subject that poetry was designed for.

If it weren't for poetry and how it allows us to express ourselves all of us hopeless romantics would be in the looney bin.

This poem is beautiful and touching beyond words, Marcia and I know exactly what you mean.

These words require a moment of pausing, because they really speak to the heart and touch it deeply. An exquisite write, dear Marcia.

No shadows without the sun and your memories make it shine brighter today.

Love,
Margherita

Haunting and beautiful and universal... So much so that I cannot trust myself to say any more than this, without it turning personal.
