Even when your steps slowed
And cane evidenced constant pain
You’d take the stage with a boyish grin
And your voice would soar so sweetly
I’d be smiling through tears
And cheering through choked throat.
Wrinkles were only illusions
Because years disappeared
And we were young again.

With the twinkle in your Temptation Eyes
You made fans feel like friends
And the warmth that saturated each note
Lasted long after concerts ended.
Through all the ups and downs of my life
I never needed to ask
Where Were You When I Needed You?
You were with me in song after song.

You always honored our veterans
And their sacrifices with Lets Live for Today -
An anthem for those who survived,
A poignant reminder of those who didn’t
And thousands of voices sang along, believing.
I hope you heard and felt the love
When your beloved Nancy
Played it as you breathed your last.

I believe you are with Christian
And free from the pain you’ve long endured
But Heaven Knows, this world is emptier
And you will be sorely missed.
I can’t Wait A Million Years
Or save the words for a Midnight Confession
Here and now, with an aching heart,
I tell all the world that I love you.

Oh yes, he's hearing this where he's at.
I hope my brother is beside him.

This is very beautiful and poignant! I don't know this artist, but you made me curious with your loving words. Will listen to some Youtube tunes.

It's good to read you again!

Love,
Margherita

JerryPat2: Thank you so much for your kind response!

Sunshine: Can you imagine the beautiful music they're creating? *S* Thank you!

Margherita: I think you'll enjoy the listening! *S* Thank you so very much!

It's been a while and I wasn't sure anyone cared to read my scribbles anymore. I know this piece is all heart and no talent... I do greatly appreciate the three of you for responding.

Yes, dear Ruth, I enjoyed the songs I listened to on youtube!

And what are you saying about "no talent" here!! This is beautiful and you are a most talented writer and I am looking forward to your further offerings. The right time is now, you know!

Love,
Margherita

No, pip slowed down for a while.  I wouldn't read in to lack of posts.  A lot of us are just short on time as well.

Ruth,

I seek out your poetry.  Please don't be gone for so long.  This is beautiful - as are you.  Keep sharing and I'll keep reading.  That's a promise.

Ruth

I, too, seek out your poetry when I can find it.  It is always all heart and all talent.

I have never heard of the singer, nor any of the songs except "Where Were You When I Needed You", but the tears rolled down my cheeks as I read this, so sensitive and beautiful is your poem.

I have missed you and your poetry.  Give my love and purr-meeows to Kate and Colin.

Love and hugs
Owl

The iconic artists who pass on, leave behind an incredible gift of giving us the soundtrack to our lives.

A beautifully written tribute by a beautiful poet.
