The Last Shot

Watched “Atlantis” from my front yard
It was really kinda neat
Not, like watching from “the clock”
But, so glad I had that treat!

Have seen Apollo Missions
And, so sad, the “Challenger”
Saw Her first Launch and Landing
Burned into my soul, for sure.

We take so much for granted
And barely notice, some great things
Forget, some of the old ones
And, sorrow, memory, brings.

I remember the “outhouse”
And, taking baths in a tin pan
Lighting wood stoves for hot water
And fueling, heating with a can.

Was born, two days after, “D Day”
And seen, this World change so much
And, our forays into Space
Have been, such a nice touch.

I’ll hear two “booms” when She lands
Shake the ground beneath, my feet
And must say, “I’m sad it’s ending,
The last of that Shuttle Fleet."

Yes, I think it is sad that they are dismembering the space program. This poem has very concise thoughts about where we have been since you were born. I am old. I have seen much.

"I remember the “outhouse”
And, taking baths in a tin pan
Lighting wood stoves for hot water
And fueling, heating with a can."

You'd better believe I relate to the wbove.
