Somewhere between
Warsaw and Hee Haw

One does not wonder
Or wander long in this
Third world under trees

There is
A miasma in the air

Half stupidity half ignorance
That coats the skin the heart
Of any mind struggling against
Its odds to be

There is
But one life
Our science
And cynics say
We are but briefly
And then no more

It is a horror then
To imagine each day
Passing away from rising
To setting sun

The waning years
However distracting
Their ephemeral balms

Steeped in darkness
That knows no end

This is a good write on its own.

Douglas is a clothesless emperor, though, and a layer of egg suits him.
