A writing contest was announced, first prize a gilded pen
The finest poets here at PIP did one and all attend
You see this was no common pen as rumors of it spread
that it was truly magical, or so those rumors said

One poet here did earn that pen those many years ago
but chose to stay anonymous so we'll just call him "Joe"
Well, Joe got famous sure enough, those rumors had been true
When fire broke out at Joes' one night he knew just what to do

Forsaking all his other stuff Joe grabbed his pen and fled
Though some may think that rather strange, it's like they've always said
Unfortunate as Joe had been that all his stuff got burned
No doubt you've heard " A pen he saved is still a pen he earned".

Sheli,
Thank you, it's very gratifying to spread a little humor around, and I still love that tag line.

Boo! Hiss! Haha! Had to do that because of that last line. Ouch. I would have loved to have participated in the contest if only to say I'd been there with the best. This was a good'n.

Doc, I don't know if you deserve such a pen or belong IN the pen!!

I KNEW we were brothers from another mother! Everything I can attribute any wit to in my life originated with either Rocky and Bulwinkle or Alfred E Neumann! We graduated from the same school!

Give me a minute here, I'm still trying to come to grips with the fact that "Deer" and I may be related. Ok, Lol, thanks.
