Take a step and you are where?-
Glance aside,
You see the past near-close behind;
A feather drifts-a dove turned fast
Though it does not pine for yesterday
To stay
Like me,
Who wishes for the feather back.
.
Raising a head from a pillow
Every movement
Realigns the every star ;
Proof of impermanence-a blue sky in flux
Changes quickly in arrangement
To poppy-orange red, bad-luck;
As we grow towards a place more up-
.
Our only constant is the center
Of the secret gardens axle ,
Which does not spin-we stand
Always at that pivot middle
Exactly in the half-way center
Of an ever turning universe.
.
A carousel in the secret garden;
We are the riders, Mary and Colin-
Caught in the same vortex,
As Phoebe and Holden,

Yearning-reaching
For the golden ring
To win a second ride
On the great mandela;
.
Roads gone over;
Always away-the garden is stolen
The slug of time slithers
Onward-pulsing its self
Through diatoms of forgetfulness
Leaving a slime trail
Of grit through the sugar times;
Ever onward towards our oblivion--
.
But I grab the ring:
.
And on it the key to my pen
Filled with ink of knowing,
That release wordsigns
That have flooded my cortex
With treasures, and tragedies
Found in childhood remembering,
.
Of when I played alone
In the secret garden.

Please note:
This poem was written from a contest prompt. The theme of the poem had to have something to do with the novel "The secret garden", but I threw in a little blip from "Catcher in the rye", just for flavor..  :-)

This is absolutely beautiful, Ford.  I haven’t read/seen “Catcher in the Rye” so I don’t know Phoebe and Holden, but The Secret Garden is as magical as it is real – as is your poem.  And that photo!  It is perfect for your poem.

Hello Ford...The golden ring beside the merry-go-round of my girlhood, always seemed to be just out of reach.  But time moves fast...I see it in this poem, except in the magic of the secret garden, where it is yours.  I loved that book and this poem touched me with the belief that it is as real as you need it to be.

This is excellent poetry.

We all have had out secret gardens, although we may have called them something else.

The secret garden was our own private place and we always looked for that Golden Ring.

A deeply captivating verse, dear Ford.

In the secret gardens of our mind we can experience healing as we become the actors of our own life dramas.

Very intriguing and most beautifully done.

The picture is like an invitation to enter ... very adequate.

Love,
Margherita
