There is a sadness at times
that lurks around every corner,
swims the moat of my outward defenses,
climbs the tower of optimism
and seeps into the walls
of my stalwart fortress.
It is then that I must take up arms
and fight
to defend the citadel of my convictions
and secure my treasury of hope.

Ida,

I have arms to take up and be at your side.  We will rally the troops and forever be optimistic in our fight for postive results.

Love you.

Very impressive imagery with a great and wise message, dear Ida.
Sometimes we may lack the energy to fight ... but some Angel is always on duty to lift us out of deep sadness. And when we put on our shields of love, then we know victory is assured.

Thank you for this great write.

Love,
Margherita

Ida, I was taken aback at this as I always think of you as being/having/inhabiting a stalwart fortress - but how dare I because even the strongest of us is human and has moments when we lose this.  But, when you  (Ida) do, you do most certainly take up arms and defend your convictions and secure your hope.  This is a beautiful, sensitive, inspirational poem.

I like the combative nature of this piece, and I'm sure you are not normally a combative person, but there are times . . .

Ida
You sound a bit like Emily Dickinson here:

"Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all,"

Your poem is like a bird, that never stops singing your strong feelings...even under duress

"to defend the citadel of my convictions
and secure my treasury of hope."

...yes, to defend the citidal of your convictions...it sings

Strong writing...indeed.

Come read to me some poem,
Some simple and heartfelt lay,
That shall soothe this restless feeling
And banish the thoughts of day.

I had to read this one twice.  I usually wait a bit before I do that, but it's sooo good.  I love the images.  Yes! Fight on.
