She was a song played on a cracked harmonica
by a blind beggar in the bus station,
a broken string on a Spanish guitar
chording Malaguena an hour before dawn.

She was accustomed to apologize
and knew it was her own fault she bruised so easily.

She was twelve

and will never be thirteen.

That was very intense...good write about a horrible thing. I felt that in my solar plexus.

Beautifully enigmatic and achingly sad, Nan.

Whoa! Taking it to the limit here, my friend. My kind of poetry. Gritty. Real.

Nan,

You stopped me in my reading tracks.  Excellent writing, such a sad poem.  It's important.  I have missed you.

Oh, and by the way, Nan, I had to look up Malaguena - and of course, like the rest of the world, I knew the music - just didn't know its name - and oh what exquisite music it is!

She was the song of innocence but her tune was manipulated and left unsung.

This is heartbreaking and impressive.
