SO MANY WHENS AGO
7 June 2011

Piano memories
soak
like hot-buttered toast
into her soul-mirror,
and long, long ragged years return,
and he was almost there again,
but distant,
in the mirror,
his huge hands
making
the keys weep
silver-quiver long-ago-notes
heart-carved for her
holding her whisper-ears
and her remember-breath
in a feather-touch grip.

This one is absolutely beautiful.  It makes me remember the blues.

This poem is an example of why I love poetry.

It is short and sweet, and brings visuals to the surface that are usually hidden deep within, drives them to the surface in a thousand cars of thought..

I hear the haunting notes as they play in the mists of your remembrances and dreams. These are good things even when they make up sad from time to time.

Thank you, Jerry, for your beautiful reply.  Yes, it was a long time ago – 1985, 1986 – but they are good memories, though even good memories have a tinge of sadness and loss.  Smiles.

Thank you, Steaven.  I am glad you enjoyed it so much.

Beautiful memories on display in beautiful poetry.
