Clapboard and kudzu,
a road bends across the tracks,
heron on sleeper.

I see an old house, maybe abandoned
Kudzu is taking over the place, and quickly-
Long tendrils wrapping around the porch posts, very visual...but I am stumped on the last line..perhaps my vision is not so clear sometimes..I hate to ask a poet to explain, but I am curious about its meaning..

"heron on sleeper"
Please enlighten..

Love the Haiku.

I'm guessing the "heron on sleeper" means a heron is standing on one leg and sleeping, Ice. I've seen them do that. Ah, whadda I know. That's my guess. Your other descriptions sound about right.

Then again it could just mean a guy with a spike sticking out of his arm has OD'd.

Beautiful haiku, easy1.  The only part (well, including the middle line) I DID understand (or so I think!) is "heron on sleeper" - I don't know if you call the huge thick wooden "planks" under a train line at right angles to the rails "sleepers", but we do in South Africa.

The other part, I believe I understand now, thanks to Ford.  I gather "kudzu" is an American creeper and that clapboard is something that part of a house is made of.

I must admit that I initially read "track" as being a path, until I saw "sleeper" and then I realised that "track" must be a train track.

Perhaps there isn't a house . . . perhaps it is littered clapboard.  I would love to know what clapboard is.

Easy1 is never easy

But after checking the words, the imagery in this crystallized beautifully. A peaceful scene, calmness reigns, the road makes me think of the wish to move forward or the possibility of new discoveries. The heron on sleeper indicates peace or maybe a form of anticipation of something to happen in these surroundings. Kudzu makes me think of Nature left alone to have her way without too much human interference. The clapboard instead shows there is the intention to build something ....

What I see pleases me.

Beautiful.

Love,
Margherita

Thank you all for your lovely comments!

We were driving in rural Florida when the country road turned across an old rusty rail line near an old white clapboard house (and some very small similarly constructed outbuildings). A large heron was standing on one of the railroad ties nearby. Yes---a peaceful scene.

Oh, so I was pretty much right - and now I know (well, more or less) what clapboard is.  Thank you, easy1.  Smiles.
