One fine day

I will wake up

and I will not

think to think

what others are thinking.

I will not worry

if this font makes me look fat.

The words I choose

will not be designed

for applause

and I'll no longer need

an opinion poll

regarding my sanity

nor will I count

my friends

and I will not

discount

my friendships-

assuming that any remain...

One fine day

I will wake up

free

to be

myself.

Most if not all of them have been
pretty much unique...and I feel like
I know where this is coming from,
and I won't tell you where it's coming
from, or going towards, because, my darlin'
friend...it's still a trip!

Hugging you HARD! but only because I'm
selfish and need that hug myself!!

I think you already have accomplished all of that.

I have been whomever I thought I needed to be in order to be loved...

and that is the saddest revelation I've had in a long time.

Thanks for hitting the nail on the head and

Welcome into the arms of freedom, dear Karen!

Your profound reflections remind me of my own journey ... whenever I was the subject of an attempt to mold me into something I was not at my core, I rebelled against it. But to be always oneself has its consequences, as you well know. Rejection is possible. I have experienced this. But my freedom is worth that.

This does not mean that we are totally free from needing to compromise in certain situations, for the love of peace   It is possible to do this while remaining who we really are. I am of innately kind character, but if I don't agree on basic things, I transform into a passionate defender of my point of view.

Well! Thank you for giving me the opportunity for this morning pondering!

I have always seen in you the seed of this kind of freedom.

Love,
Margherita

Karen, as you know, I have never met you in the non-cyber world and probably never will, but, I have always thought that you are the epitome - no, THE EPITOME - of honesty and being eXACtly who you are - and that is very high on the list of reasons that I admire you.  When I think of the concepts of honesty and having the courage to be who one is, you are always the first example I think of.  As it is far easier to be dishonest in the cyber world, I can't imagine you not being both in the real world.  I also think that you judge yourself probably more harshly than anyone else I know, but I accept your word for it that you have compromised on who you are - but it is my humble belief that the compromise is far less than you imagine and that this is an example of how harshly you are judging yourself.  Thinking about it carefully, I would imagine that everyone in the world has compromised on who they are, in order to be loved.  I know, that I most certainly have.  You are the first person I know who has had the courage firstly to recognise that of yourself, and secondly acknowledge it publicly - again a perfect and paradoxical example of honesty, courage and somebody who IS exactly who she is.  Bravo!  And as for loving you, I am certain that everyone in Pip who has ever met you (or so it seems to me from reading replies to your poetry) loves you - and I am sure that everyone - or nearly everyone - who has met you in the non-cyber world loves you too - how could they not?  I certainly do.  However, I know that you are meaning mostly by a man and your family, but everyone else - as described in your poem - is an extension of that.  Also compromising on who you are to be loved, is an endearing quality - imagine if the tables were turned and a man was doing the same for you, although this would probably not be what you would want, wouldn't it give you a heart-warming feeling because he would only do that if HE loved YOU?  Therefore the fact that you have done that is because you loved him/them - and it is an endearing quality in the eyes of the world that somebody loves somebody else.  I hope you like my logic!  In whatever way you see the above, the result keeps coming back to what a great person you are!

a pretty powerful poem you've got here with all of the right words to get your meaning across quite clearly...i like the honesty in your poem and to tell the truth i can remember so many times in years gone by thinking "i just want to be loved" but never really feeling that i was...everybody needs love and you are loved more than you know'''

Love,

Faith

There must be a poem in here somewhere.

Pleasing unappreciative others all the time is a tough row to hoe. It is expected and supported by the somewhat wise that one takes intervals from that, even in forced (coerced) circumstances.

Hey, thanks for a lovely poem, and crystal clear in the expression, as a good poem otter be!
