the flags were draped
over the coffins of tears
while
solemn white symbols
representing the hope
of faith
awaited the finality of destiny

somber sentiments leaked
from tender hearts
while
warm spring breezes saluted
heroes fallen for love
of country
appointed guardians of freedom

the day will soon be over
for family and friends alike
while
soldier-souls meet their Master
tissues wiping away the tears
of their fate
but never their memories

thank you Jerry...I come from a family that is well represented in the services.  My regret (and my mother's joy) was that I was turned down for service when it was my turn to serve.

Though of course I think like your Mother, I understand your feelings and you have written a very touching tribute. I especially liked:

somber sentiments leaked
from tender hearts
while
warm spring breezes saluted
heroes fallen for love ...

Wonderful tribute, my friend - especially touched by "soldier-souls meet their Master
tissues wiping away the tears . . . "

Awesome line.

Very condensed, powerful poetry.  Reads almost like an epitaph.  Fitting and respectful.

You chose your images well and they do work.  The last part is especially powerful.

Thank you for sharing this with us, I'm glad I got to read it.

A fitting tribute to our fallen heros, Steaven.

Margherita, thank you.  I appreciate your comments.  Not only do you think like my mother, I think you would have liked her as well. Thank you especially for commenting on that part.

jwesley, thank you for that 'awesome' comment

Brian, wow!  ...such a powerful comment...it is greatly appreciated

Ida, thank you.  It is a special thing to give honor to those who have given what some could not give.  They are indeed 'heroes.'

May Steaven's memory live on equally as long. So long sir and Godspeed.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

"soldier-souls meet their Master
tissues wiping away the tears
of their fate"

This is beautiful in word and in spirit.
Blessings.
