Memorial Day is here. I hope we will pause for a brief moment in silent meditation for those who are in the Armed Services who have lost their lives or came home crippled, never to be as they were before. It is such a little thing to ask. Just a few moments of silent thanks for what they have given us.

this is not a poem
Hanoi Jane would appreciate
then again
I don't appreciate her
that out of the way
let's get started

to those who have died
to those who have lost parts of their bodies
I love and admire the men and women
who wear the uniform
of The United States of America
they might fly the planes
steer the boars
cook the grub
swab the decks
whatever their jobs are
they are jobs which are related
to everyone else
the pay isn't great, the hours are long
the blood they spill
so far away from home
is for you and me and the guys who don't care
and those who bad-mouth what they have to do

okay
killing is bad
first to admit that
it's bad
should never have to go to a distant land
and kill
but we do have to go there
on occasion
in this day and age
there is no choice because the
Middle East has completely gone berserk
hah!
Arab Spring!
they are supposed to be uprising
for democracy
gimme a show of hands all who believe that
Muslim Brotherhood ring a bell
that ain't democracy in the making

'nuff said about all that
this is a tribute to ALL
of those who have fought to keep us free
we fought England for freedom
and have been fighting to keep it since
I repeat
I love everybody who wears
the uniform of The United States of America
those who don't wear the uniform
CIA, FBI, et al
are also on my list as heroes
for keeping our enemies
thwarted and stopped

May America Always Be Free!

Thank you, steavenr, there actually seems to be more patriotic fervor in the air these days. I hope it catches on.

Thanks, D.S., I know you are right, but we aren't doing it right, and will never even come close with this administration.

Well said!
Freedom is not free. Those that pay the price usually want nothing in return but to take care of their families and live in peace.

I fear for America, Duck, very much. Thanks for the kind words.
