Flaming June by Frederic Leighton

*

In dreams

*

Tears of longing
had stained her pillow
through the night.

In dreams
he walked towards her
upon their very own meadow
in white sunshine robes
wearing his heart smile.
She felt his love
permeating her every fiber
and she rose to her feet.
He lifted her up,
like a feather light little girl
and held her high
into the sky.
He turned and turned
making her shriek
in delight.

Then he held her close
to his strong chest
and she wrapped
her arms around his neck.
Angel wings bloomed
on their shoulders.
Pan flute sounds were
twirling in the air
and carried them away
to the land of pure joy.
They roamed in
each other’s eyes
and knew they were home.

In dreams
they inhaled
the fragrance
of thorn less roses.

The eyes of dawn
found her smiling,
held close
within the arms
of his soul.
Gone,
she was gone ...
gone
to dance
with her love
on the divine shores
of forevermore.

fine Romanticism ...

'Life' should have a lot more of those 'thornless' roses!

hi margherita, this is such a romance, such sensitive, I could almost see a painting of 17th or 18th century with delicate characters, you touch the heart brilliantly, I specially love the lines :
They roamed in
each other’s eyes
and knew they were home.

thanks for the poem

Classic romanticism, Margherita, and one that if I'd found among the dusty covers of an old, famous poet, I would have thought . . . magnificent! And so I do think that this day as I stare at my screen which maybe too a little dusty itself. Fine work, and the fact that you gave us a short glimpse of the mischievous Pan assures me that there will be extra attention paid to the romance of the two.

Very, very beautiful, Margherita.  Perhaps I misunderstood, but I thought she died at the end of the poem.

Thank you, dear Bruce, I much enjoyed your presence here.

Thank you, dear Yann, for your loving comment and for visualizing the scenery with your mind's eyes.

Dear Jerry, thank you so much for your kind and generous reply. It feels good to blow the dust off romanticism and revive it. I love the sound of pan flutes, just bought a new cd from a Peruvian musician on the street. The mythological story of the Pan flute makes me think that after all we have to be grateful for the girl's plea to be transformed   ... otherwise who would have thought of this magical sound?

Dear Diana, thank you, for enjoying this. Yes you can interpret the conclusion like you do (death=rebirth), but I see it also as a way of living contemporaneously in different dimensions. Dreams are reflections of this hypothetical parallel world.

Love to all,
Margherita

I think 'forevermore' summed it all up, my friend...romanticism at it's best...

"This is love:
to fly toward a secret sky,
to cause a hundred veils to fall each moment.
First to let go of life.
Finally, to take a step without feet.”
Jalal ad-Din Rumi

Your poem reminds me of that, and also that I sometimes forget how to sigh...

But I did at the end of this beautiful piece of word art.

Dear Ford, thank you so much for your wonderful comment. That is one of my favorite Rumi poems no doubt. I even choose a motto on another site which says: "Keeping my feet firmly in the air" ... so you see, that is my philosophy.

Good that you could sigh!

Love,
Margherita

Dear Margherita

"They roamed in
each other’s eyes"

For a long time after my brain surgery, I didn't dream.  It was as if half of my life was gone.  Now they are back, thankfully.  Such beauty in your poem dream...thank you.

Dear Barry, thank you so much for reading and commenting so kindly. It's good to see you are back. Please stay awhile!

Dear Martie, I am glad your dreams enrich your nights again, dreams are no doubt a way of communication with our higher self and with our Source imo. Thank you from my heart for your loving comment. The dream that inspired my poem was so incredibly intense, I fear I could not render it full justice.

Dear Ida, sending you a big hug to thank you for your sweet comment. The white petals of "Margherita" just blushed a little into pink.

Love,
Margherita

ps I wonder why no one referred to the picture. Is it visible? I had this painting (a copy obviously) hanging in my office. It was funny, a sleeping beauty in the office, but in sleep we recharge our energies too ....
