I shield my eyes in your aura
a smile wide within your laughter
as your voice shivers my spine
how long ago you loved me

once, I was bride of the bellflower
witness to the waterfall
washed clean of bitterness
yet still, thirsty is my skin

I slip across the mission yard
a rusting halo in my pocket
am I forgiven for past transgressions
buried beneath time’s patina

your heart holds my rapture
reconciling shadows of the girl
that now stands against you woman
can you find my heart the same

will you still know me as a lover
with your kiss pressed in my locket
as we dance precariously between
something old, something new

or will Luna click her eyes closed
leaving me merely lamp-lit
yearning for familiar journey
that would lead me irrevocably home

Hard not to have rust on one's Halo, my friend...we all do to some extent (won't go into how much is on mine!).

Enjoyed this...

I agree with Margherita.  That same phrase was the one that jumped out at me and said to me, "Pause there and remember that."  Nice write.
