it is irrelevant in the twilit hour
why or where
the songbirds return from,
many things are not explainable,
of all lessons taught, I know,
without discernable reason,
some things just are

-I am a rice-paper child,
jaggedly torn, fearing rain
that will render me invalid,
I wear my heart on a bangle,
my pride balanced on this blade,
there is nothing about me
that is not compromised

-fruit is sweetest forbidden,
the stain on my lips, scarlet,
while you are consumed
by tragedy and ghosts,
I queue once again
as the tenor notes dance
a slow twirl around us

-you, seeding my womb
with implications far-reaching,
excuses jumbling in my ear,
disrupting my melody,
I give timelessness in return,
a carte blanche for your treason,
and only ask for one thing

[hear my song]

still, you are tone-deaf
while this lament
plays on and on,
unnoticed amongst thievery,
echoing within wildflowers,
insignificantly resounding
along the tin roof
of my spendthrift soul

and even though I know
it does no good to question,
as the sun slowly seeps
across the plaid horizon,
I wonder
who it would matter to
besides me, if not you
I wonder
if it matters at all

why the nightingale
sings at dawn

Excellent. I've read it twice. I will read it again. And again. I'm saving it. You excelled here. Your emotions cut deep, your pain is wary. To be able to write this is a tribute to your sanity, because from your words you have gone through literal hell in the romance department. I'll not forget this one.

Welcome to Pip, dear callalily, love your name ... a double flower.

I agree with Jerry, your first offering here is excellent. Sad, but so intensely rendered. Poetry at its best.

To whom it matters? To all, when we are aware of being One. I love to think that the nightingale sings just for you, for she knows your pain.

Love,
Margherita

Excellent poetry...topic and form.
Reads well, as the cadence marries itself well with the theme.
Lovely with sadness,
Romantically expressed.
