I've only just started writing poetry again after more than a decade off. I wrote this poem as a much younger man and just came across it again. Memories of a previous beautiful time.

The Dream

Gabriela, the girl, the woman, the dream
I have known you now for so little time
But what means time?

When you are around I feel happy and at ease,
Like a bird flapping lazily up through the trees
I gently climb.

I feel I'm at home in a comfortable chair,
My dog in my lap, scent of flowers in the air.
The sound of the clock and a winter log fire
As it crackles and burns.

There is frost on the window and outside it's cold
But I'm inside and warm with a book in my hands
And thinking of your beauty in a far away land.
Speach maybe silver but silence is gold
And inside it's warm and outside it's cold.

Other girls are just milk but you are the cream,
Gabriela, the girl, the woman. My dream.

I can imagine that Gabriela wasn't shy showing her appreciation for this poem declaring all that love for her.

I'm still in touch, but sadly, back in those days I was pretty inept, we never got together.

Ah, they were three lovely sisters, a blonde, a brunnette and one with black hair, all stunningly beautiful, who would say I was like their brother, what frustration!!

Nice write! Sorry about your luck back in the day...but it seems as if she still gives you reason to smile.  That may not have been the case today if you had married her.

That's very nice, Al. Dreams can put us into wonderful places where we feel cozy and happy. And sometimes dreams are not meant to manifest, but still they have a reason to exist.
