Writers!  Writers! Write what you know.
That's what they say, all of the pro's.
Phooey on that gobbledygook.
I mean, get real, take a good look.

Let's say you have a great notion,
To put a book into motion.
You want to write about cowboys,
Then you can't come from Illinois?

Poets are sensitive, even men,
A poem they would like to pen
Of women in love and their pain,
But they can't if their name's not Jane?

Well, maybe.  Maybe they are right,
I'm not trying to pick a fight.
I just think that writing is fun,
You can write shoot; not own a gun.

Think of the love sonnets and such,
You don't have to live all that much.
Writers write about dreams of love,
Tho too ugly to be worthy of.

Halloween, we conjure up ghosts,
Don sheets, we're monsters we can boast.
Ghouls and witches in poems do clash,
Should we go to a real monster mash?

A sweet thing writes about her cat,
Should she actually eat a rat?
Oh!  I think sweet thing would say no,
I'll imagine it; let my words flow.

Poets write about things not true,
Does this mean they haven't a clue?
Their life may be dull and mundane,
Why can't they write wild and insane?

Write of murder if that's your bent,
Without putting feet in cement.
Some write from deep held fervent zeal,
Sunsets, although blind in the real.

Agonies of war can be truth,
By old maids full of gin and vermouth.
We cannot all write most profound,
But we have more wisdom than a hound.

Which gives us ways and means to think,
Life somewhere else, we can be in sync.
I wonder if Agatha Christie,
Killed and maimed after tea and biscuits?

Inspiration comes from many different things and emotions. Even from things that are mysterious I think, maybe even more than from those we know to perfection.

I enjoyed your poetic reflections, dear Jerry. You brought smiles with your thoughts about Agatha Christie. Those were very good books to read while learning English, because of the many dialogues she inserted. They were fun and good exercise in the same time.

Great job!

Love,
Margherita

Thank you, Margherita. I can't believe that I've never read even one of her books.

A poet's imagination is a wonderous thing. It's a gift not a learned skill. Anyone can learn to write a poem but it takes that special gift to be a poet, and you my friend, are a poet of the highest order.

Peace and Love,
Marcia

Your writing keeps me entertained, Jerry.  Gosh, if we never had any imagination, how would we ever get any experience?  I want more, not less.  I would love to write more, but always think, who would read this???   Thanks!  ~K   OH, yes... this was funny and smart.  Great reading!

Write it, Klassy Lassy. If they read it they will read it. If you don't write it and present it they will never have a choice to read it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read my stuff and comment on it.
