Image and video hosting by TinyPic

old Maude is an old yellow dog
called her old dog before I knew her name
lives a few blocks
from where Zoe and I do
we usually pass by her on at least
one of our daily walks
sometimes she senses us
or smells, or whatever
she barks at us before we get to her
not a huge bark anymore
like I said
Maude is old and broken down
hind quarters all thin and arthritis looking
eyes glazed over, probably cataracts
we've know old Maude
about two years
each time we go by her
I wonder if she'll be there
her owners said until she starts hurting
they're not gonna put her down
sometimes we don't see her for days
and days
I think the worst
then there she'll be trying to be frisky
she can't
cept wag her tail
and not much of that
last week she was laying in the same place
for two days
the exact same place
breathing, but not acknowledging us
the next day or two
didn't see her
thought the worse . . . again
but there she was the next day
hanging in. she loves for me to put my hand
through the iron gate and pat her head
rub her ears
Zoe just loves Maude
tries to get inside through
the iron gate bars
we'll be making a pass by there tonight
hope I won't
have to amend this poem

As you can imagine, this has me sobbing.  Please tell Maude that Auntie Di in a faraway country across the sea loves her lots and lots and lots and thinks that she is very beautiful and precious.  Please tell her too about Flicka, Tigger and Daisy, Auntie Di's horse, cat and dog who are in Heaven and who are waiting to meet her, but not before her time, and tell her that they will introduce her to all the animals and animally people and show her around Heaven and when she gets there she will be well and fit and able to run and jump and play with everyone, the way she did when she was a puppy.  And please thank Zoe from Auntie Di for loving Maude and talking to her.  And please thank yourself as well.

Oh Jerry, you had me tearing up with this one. The dog looked so sad. You are good to show her some attention and love. She proably looks forward to you stopping by each day. (More karma for you in heaven) lol
Now on a lighter note..
I watched this video my girlfriend sent me today on
FB, it was a dog wanting to play, you know pick up the stick in its mouth put it at the guys feet and look down, wait... look up, puzzled look, like well? This went on 4-5 times the dog whining, etc..
The dog even put the stick up on the mans lap.
Nothing man didn't look at the dog or move. Why your wondering was he being a jerk? Because it was a statue! Lol oh my god i laughed so hard, couldn't help it! I thought dogs were smarter than that! lol
Thanks for sharing this, your a good guy for giving some loving to this poor dog.

Maude has a very nice home, Owl. She wants for nothing, although I have to admit I never see anyone taking up any time with her. The people love her I'm sure. She has the whole yard to roam in when she feels like in, and a place to go when bad weather comes. But I know Zoe and I make her happy when we come around, that much is evident. thanks, Owl, for you kind words.

Haha! THAT is funny. Dogs are usually smarter than that. Thank you for stopping by, Dreamgal, and relating that about the dot and the statue, I'll have that image in my mind all day long.

Yeah, I think she expects us to show up every day and we try not to disappoint her. Thanks, Lori.

You must realize, JP, that we need a hanky alert around here...

and thank you for sharing Maude with us. Yes, she knows you, and delights when you come by. Did you ever stop to think that because of you, she continues to look forward to every next day? Just so she can say hello to Zoe and her human?
