Soldier to soldier
Blood on their dry cut fingers

I could see "Normandy"
But illusions seem to
Come at a far greater moments notice

I noticed jack was short of breathe
His cheeks were a bit whiter than usual
Like a winter creek when an icy frost comes over it.

My rifle was cocked behind my shoulder
Just behind where Jack said
Don't hold your fears
For the trees know when you're scared

So I put my shades on
As if the world could see a striker
Instead of a soldier in the midst of tears

I could hear it
Those shots like the thunder
Righting the ships of the sea

I was a child
In the boots of a man
With the absent mind of blood

Soldier to soldier
Until the ground
Grew dark with my absent heart.
