So far I fell
so deep in love
with the dream
of just last night

I dare not sleep
nor close my eyes

lest I lose resolve

and this--

quickened fluttering of sighs.

I touch my teeth to know I smile.

And that's how long it's been.

May I simply state that I love this?

Oh go ahead and shut those eyes, as it may possibly be a continuing story - that happens to me if they are REALLY good ones! Think hard about the dream and it just continues like "As The World Turns."   Happy Mudder's Day Lady!

I love all your poems, Karen, the ones I don't understand at all, the ones I understand little of, the ones I understand most of, the angry ones, the introspective ones, the sad ones, but the ones I love the most are the happy ones, and I SO love this one.  May your happiness continue, and I echo Mysteria, Happy Mother's Day!

Achingly superb, Karen. I'm very glad you are posting again, it's been a while. This is just A+, or a 10, whatever, and however you judge it nothing can compare to the way this poem is so shakily put together. Wanting something, but not remembering exactly how to handle it. Yes.

This feels good, perhaps a cherry pit may sweeten the taste, but I have a feeling you prefer a palate that tastes all.
I hope this made sense

Lawsy, Em. I feel like you just watched me dive into my Mother's Day gift basket!

(Revenge for all the early Easter morns)

Besides? There was salmon in there. Nod.

*exhale*

Thank you all, so much for the lovely replies, and Alison? I must say, asking permission to say I love this makes you absolutely enchanting.

I'm off to go worship my own mum now, but I think there is a cracker left, and a smidge of that smoked cheddar...

And somebody brought me some excellent coffee too!

Romeo & Juliet - Act 1, Scene 1

"Love is a smoke and is made with the fume of "sighs"..."

Love the poem...made me smile and think of Shakespeare..

Thank you, dear Karen, for sharing the smile!
Focus, focus and grab the dream ...
I love how you sighed this onto the page.

Love,

Karen...a dream, when it lasts into the teeth touching wake time, brought me a yearning for olives and the seed inside.  Hugs!
