Slow-walking on the side of the road, I stare at the sky above.

It's a shame we can't reach those heights.

Each second that elapses as I observe the road becomes a moment I'll waste.

It's been a while since I started.

Where is my home? I can't recall it's location.

I'll just keep walking.

And so I continue at a slower pace as I witness fading memories march on ahead.

An old woman with a cane leads the procession as a crawling child shakes his rattle.

Now comes a weeping mother whose trembling hands tightly grasp the portrait of a handsome young man.

Behind her is a casket borne by uniforms whose faces reveal the faintest hint of remorse.

Finally in black and white, a bright young couple arrives side by side, with hands firmly interlocked.

The speed of the procession quickens, and soon, these memories leave my sight.

I pause momentarily. My legs are anchored to the ground. I feel the earth try to drag me down beneath the dirt.

Where am I headed?

I stare up at the sky above.

I'll just keep walking.

Yes, I'll just keep walking.

I read this with tears in my eyes.  My favourite word in the whole poem was "try" because that means that the earth did not succeed in dragging you down beneath the dirt - and I loved the fact that right after that you answer your question "Where am I headed" with looking up at the sky.

And my double-favourite lines, are the last 2 lines.

Welcome to PIP, from me, too.

This is very much like a recurring dream I have of ...just walking.

I never get tired. I never worry about where home is, and the sights always vary...

Just walkin'.

You hit a chord in me, apparently.

Welcome to Pip.
