Hey! Soul! Yeah, you, over there
hiding in your favorite lair.
Beside all the old crazy things that I did
when young and rebellious of things they forbid.
What do you think
was I wrong, was I out of sync?
Aw, come one, Mr. Soul, don't be that way
I was only testing life's offering, a wildflower bouquet.

You think I'm hiding from you
I've always been here, but then, you already knew.
Collecting and arranging your deeds
which you have sent to me, even tried to mislead.
If I could, I would laugh out loud
as you talk of youthful folly for following a bad crowd.
It wasn't flowers you sought in days of yore
you searched out and found your own immoral corps.

I admit I did have a flair for taking troublesome risks
but to me life was like bubbling bisque.
How was I to know what I did and did not like
if I didn't nibble at everything, not take just a single bite?
Don't go getting all high and mighty on me
cause you have to admit I was hip and free.
What did it matter back then what I did or didn't do
I just can't grasp what it means to you?

You have lived all this time without an ounce of brains
and you never did learn how to abstain.
I will agree though, you surely did partake
of all of life's more sinful goodies but you were a snake.
I ask you again, how have you grown to be your age
and still be a fool because you’re sure nobody's sage?
It matters to me, stupid because I'm the keeper of record
precise so you can't say later it didn't occur.

Well, youth has to be understood
we don't all toe the line and do what we should.
But I got through all of that nonsense
and got married even though I didn't have two cents.
Can I help it if it didn't work out
it wasn't all my fault, that's true , there's no doubt.
Wait, let's not talk about the years after that
as I tried to regain my youth thinking I was a real cool cat.

You were cool all right, you were more than chilly
that's why you went from town to city.
Searching for something you could never find
because dumbass you saw everything but you were blind.
So many, many chances you had to do good
but you turned away I really don't think that you could.
You humans are sometimes a very strange lot
you sail on a good enough boat but you want a yacht.

Well, maybe all that is so, maybe you are right
but I'm old now, I don't feel like a fight.
Why don't you leave me alone
go away, back to your own little zone?
None of it means anything to anybody anymore
least of all you, you miserable hoarder of gore.
I don't have long left in this old world and I want it to be said
that I was forgiven all of my sins before I was dead.

Little man, just because you are getting on
you shall find no comfort, past discretions are not gone.
They are there, and there, observe!
on yourself, festering scabs, you get what you deserve.
Why is it that men, in their twilight
of years think they can make everything all right?
That is nonsense, you want to know why
cause me, your soul you've left high and dry, so goodbye.

"you sail on a good enough boat but you want a yacht."

Good point... Enjoyed this duel perspective.

You did a very good job here, dear Jerry. The mere awareness of having a soul is such a gift and the idea of a dialogue is great.

Of course your soul would never ever belittle you, but it would whisper love filled words of comfort into your ear. Relax and release your past "deviations" as you may consider them, and walk hand in hand with your soul, who is like a perfect diamond that can't be damaged by ego-linked actions. Your soul is your very salvation, it wants you to walk in the light of deep consciousness, that will lead you to inner peace.

Love,
Margherita
