Amid the swirling snow—
White beard a wooden cane
Silver Birches

The title refers to Tolstoy's estate, a nature and historical park since 1921 (so their website recounts). Somehow I doubt that snow season is tourist season there.

A man of contradictions and of genius. I like your short poem here, and perhaps someday will be able to visit Tolstoy country in person.

Thank you both

I was very Japanese as well
for some reason; as the first line
is intended to also be an allusion to:

To be old—
Now amid the swirling snow
I understand:

No one comes to visit me;
There is no place to go.

Teika

Thanks again

John
