Not the best Villanelle, but . . .

I think the die has been cast for tonight,
A dreadful howl from down at the dockside,
A spectre from the past, old Mack the Knife.

The fog saturates the dock, best take flight,
You're grist for the mill when you see him stride,
I think the die has been cast for tonight.

There is no safe place, a night of pure fright,
No where to run when he gives you the eye,
A spectre from the past, old Mack the Knife.

Won't listen to reason, we're in a plight,
A mean and vengeful man comes on high tide,
I think the die has been cast for tonight.

My God in Heaven, what has caused this blight?
Mack would bellow, remember my child bride?
I think the die has been cast for tonight,
A spectre from the past, old Mack the Knife.

The ache of weary in this ...like someone tired of remembering with no respite.

May you rest well and repair your spirit, good friend.

Ah, my spirit is good. I just get into these moods every so often.

JerryPat2,
Hey, no fair! I was looking forward to comparing notes, lol. I would really be interested in seeing it, as there are so few posted, and  I've enjoyed some of your other pieces. Oh well, perhaps another time.
